Andrew has over 26 years experience as a piano and harpsichord teacher.
He studied piano with David Murray and Sally-Ann Mcleod (Royal Northern), harpsichord with Sophie Yates, and Historically Informed Performance with John Bryan (The Rose Consort of Viols). He holds a B/Mus(Hons) in performance from the University of Huddersfield and the DipABRSM in performance on both piano and harpsichord.
His students currently range from beginners to diploma standard and are of all ages. Andrew has extensive experience preparing students for ABRSM examinations and in recent years Andrew's ex-students have gone on to study music at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and Cambridge, Edinburgh, Durham and Newcastle universities.
Andrew is a Visiting Teacher of Harpsichord at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Visiting Teacher of Piano at the University of Northumbria as well as holding positions at Newcastle Royal Grammar School, Dame Allan's School and Whitley Bay High School, as well as teaching privately.
In 2013 Andrew gained a PCGE in post 16 education and training from the University of Sunderland, and now teaches part time A-Level music at Whitley Bay High School. As part of his employment here Andrew continues to benefit from outstanding CPD from a nationally accredited teaching school, awarded 'outstanding' by Ofsted in 2011, 2013 and 2024, keeping him up to date with current best teaching practice.
Ross Morton
Ross began teaching here in 2022.
He began his studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama under James Wilshire (Solo Repertoire) and Simon Phillipo (Repetiteur Classes), and recently returned to the North East to study for his DipABRSM with Andrew Soulsby.
He has 7 years as a freelance musician under his belt, and has a real enthusiasm for teaching. He was accompanist to Backworth Male Voice Choir between 2022 and 2024 and can regularly be found in theatre pits across the region, recently playing for productions of 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' (Just One Step Productions) and 'The Wedding Singer' (Whitley Bay Operatic Society).
Ross is entering his final year of study at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne where he studies piano with David Murray and harpsichord with Andrew Soulsby.
Daisy Ward-Soulsby B/Not(Hons) DipSnooze
Daisy is our newest member of staff and has been appointed as our new Public Relations Officer.
This is Daisy's first full time job, but she comes to us with a wealth of experience, having already slept through a whole academic years worth of lessons and rehearsals, both at home and at the studio. Daisy also brings her extensive knowledge of calming therapy techniques to her new role, such as sleeping on students feet, sleeping next to students parents and sleeping under the harpsichord. In her spare time Daisy enjoys sleeping on the sofa and playing with her best mate, Baloo, which she says makes her quite sleepy. We were most impressed with Daisy's ability to eat a bowl of kibble in under 26 seconds at her interview, and are pleased to welcome her to the team at 1685 Piano & Harpsichord Tuition.
Maybe she'll pop in to your next lesson to say hi, and invite you to tickle her tummy.
